Equine RGR40308 Certificate IV in Racing (Harness Race Driver)

The Harness Training Centre operates as close to as possible as a professional racing stable enabling all students to experience the work place in readiness to enter the real world of employment. This aspect of education and training is unique, as it allows students to experience all aspects of the racing industry.

» Course Description:

This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge base for people to enter into the Harness Racing Industry pursuing a career as a standard bred racing driver. Students can enter with little or no previous experience and provided they are prepared to work hard, should finish the year with sufficient knowledge and skills to be an asset to any professional stable. 
Upon completion of the program, students graduate with the Certificate IV in Racing (Harness Race Driver). If this course was undertaken concurrently with RGR40108 Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer), then upon completion of the two programs, students would graduate with both certificates with Harness Race Driver and Racehorse Trainer.

» Duration: 40 hours per week for 32 weeks

» Cost: Fees: $ 1,372.30 Concession: $492.30 (health care, pension card Newstart etc.).

» Essentials/Prerequisites: Entry requirements: Students need be 15 years of age and a minimum Year 10 or equivalent qualification. Selection of eligible students will be based on interview with an industry panel. Students will need to show elements of motivation, awareness of industry requirements and a passion to work in the industry.

» Pathways:

Pathways:  Appropriate for a professional person who works independently and contracts his/her driving services on a daily basis to compete in industry regulated competition as a harness driver. Or students may wish to continue on to complete a Diploma in Racing

» Recognition of Prior Learning/Credit Transfers:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students wishing to apply for RPL need to indicate this on the Enrolment Form.  RPL Application Forms are available from the Course Co-ordinator. 

Credit Transfer:  Credit Transfer is the recognition and acknowledgment of modules or units of competency acquired through prior formal credentialed training (identical academic experience).
ECG grants Credit Transfer under our Mutual Recognition obligations.
