New Ed Centre for Latrobe Valley

November 17, 2009

ECG - Education Centre Gippsland has officially opened a brand new adult education and training complex in the Traralgon CBD to meet growing skills needs of business and the community.
The new facility in Church Street comprises 8 training and meeting rooms, and a modern hair and beauty training salon open to the community.
Opening the new centre, Member for Eastern Victoria region Matt Viney commended ECG’s innovative approach, integrating education and training into the centre of Traralgon to increase access to training for local people and businesses.
“This is a top quality facility offering progams relevant to the needs of local community and businesses.
ECG CEO Bernadette O’Connor said ECG began operating a small facility in Traralgon last year offering accredited courses in Children’s Services, Aged Care, Retail, Disability and Financial services. It has grown enrolments to 400 students this year.
“With several inquiries from the Latrobe Valley for hairdressing, we gained usage of a small hair salon and began offering programs in Hair and Beauty delivering to more than 50 students in hairdressing and beauty alone.
“In January this year, it was evident to the ECG Board and management that there was an unmet demand in the Latrobe Valley for more course programs and a need to open a more permanent campus.”
Ms O’Connor said the new centre would accommodate future growth needs and enable ECG to expand its programs.
“In addition to our existing suite of courses, ECG will offering a first for the Latrobe Valley in 2010 – a new Diploma of Beauty which until now people have had to travel to Melbourne to attend.
ECG Manager Sharon Clements said the ECG hair training salon is a brand new and fully equipped centre open to the public to come in for hair and beauty services delivered by students under supervision.
“It’s location in the CBD will provide a great opportunity for people to support the skills development of our students. We will also be offering several new short courses in nail technology, beauty services, make up, as well as Certificate in General Education, RSA, RSG, Bar courses, First Aid and more.
“ECG is looking to build partnerships with local businesses and organisations in the Latrobe Valley to strengthen course programs and ensure they meet the needs of industry and community,“ Ms Clements said.
ECG is a not-for-profit adult education and training provider that has been delivering programs in Gippsland for 30 years. It operates the McMillan campuses at Warragul and Leongatha, as well as centres at Morwell and Pakenham, and now a new complex in Traralgon.
