New Platform for Local Musicians
October 13, 2009
Local musicians and singers wanting to jam together, extend their skills, or perform before a live audience have a new opportunity in Warragul with ECG McMillan set to launch a live music night to be held at the campus each month. The first evening is planned for Friday October 16 with a variety of music from saxophones, African drums, guitars, keyboards, harmonicas, mandolins and more.
ECG Manager Des Hughes said the night was open to anyone who wanted to perform – professionals and amateur musicians and singers - to give local people an opportunity to network, jam together and hone their skills. “The night called, ‘Live Music in the White Room’ is also open to the community to attend.“People can come along and enjoy a night of live music and see what talent the region has to offer.
The evening may also provide a platform for musicians to show their work and get bookings as a result. ”Mr Hughes there was a strong interest from local musicians wanting to get together and jam with other artists. “This has potential to provide a really interesting element to the night as some of the music will be unplannedand evolve on its own as people play together and create.
Each evening will provide a completely different show.” He said in initiating the new music nights, ECG was taking education and training to a new level. “ECG has launched courses in guitar and
keyboard this term which links beautifully with the music nights as it will provide students with a platform to meet other musicians and perform as they progress their skills.
“At the same time these nights are supporting the local music industry helping g people to broaden skills and perform.’’
The first music night will be held in the White Room (Dining Room) at ECG McMillan campus, Korumburra Road Warragul on Friday October 16 from 7pm – 10pm with a small cover charge for the community to attend.
It is BYO with tea, coffee and nibbles provided.
