About ECG

ECG is a not for profit community managed organisation that is structured as a company Limited by Guarantee.

Board
ECG is governed by a Board of Management, that is committed to providing opportunities for growth that meets the learning needs of adults in Baw Baw, South Gippsland and Cardinia Shires.

The Board of Management meets monthly to ensure that governance issues related to the organisation are addressed. In addition the Board undertakes an annual Strategic Planning weekend.

The following Board Subcommittees operate:
• Executive – Oversees the financial and contractual performance.
• Investment and Business Development – Reviews investments and monitors business development initiatives.
• Marketing – Plans and develops the image of ECG and monitors the success of marketing strategies.

Staffing and Structure
The organization is committed to ensuring that it has a responsive structure with the flexibility to provide professional growth, stability and support for its staff. ECG has two major Business Units – Employment Services and Projects and Education and Training, These Business Units are supported by the Corporate Services Unit which includes Administration, Reception and Finance.

History
ECG commenced operations as a Commonwealth Education Centre in 1974 under the name of West Gippsland and Latrobe Valley Community Education Centre and provided teacher resources to the local schools.

In the 1990s the funding for the Commonwealth Education Centres altered and the organisation became involved in the delivery of labour market programs and began operating as a Registered Training Provider.

In 1997 ECG took on the opportunity to become the major Adult Community and Further Education Provider in Baw Baw Shire.

Programs and services continued to develop with the turnover of the organisation growing from $1,066,082 in 1997 to $3,200,000 in 2003.

 

At the end of 2002 the organisation opened the ECG Copy Centre at 57 Smith Street, negotiated with South Gippsland Adult Education to merge and commenced its office in Morwell for the delivery of the Correctional Services Employment Pilot Program. ECG became a member of Jobs Futures, a national organisation that creates business opportunities.

 

ECG began delivering adult and community education programs and services from its Leongatha site early in 2003 and became involved in the development of the Learning Towns concept through the Southern Gippsland Learning Communities Project.

In 2003 the organisation also began to take on a lead role for state wide projects in consortia arrangements with partner organisations and expanded its delivery of program and services under the Jobs Futures umbrella.
